SISSEL BAKKEN

MEZZO-SOPRANO

Sissel Bakken, lyric mezzo-soprano, is a graduate with a Masters in Vocal Performance from George Mason University. She was born and grew up in Norway. She moved to Virginia in 1998 where she joined a band as a singer/songwriter. After one year of doing this Ms. Bakken realized that she needed some vocal training and thus began her music education, earning an Associate's Degree in Applied Arts in Popular Music and Jazz as well as a Masters in Music Performance from George Mason University.

Ms. Bakken has performed the roles of Prince Orlofsky in Strauss's Die Fledermaus, 3rd Lady in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Dame Quickly in Verdi's Falstaff, Zita in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and The Mistress of the Novices in Suor Angelica. She has had solo recitals both in the U.S. and abroad. Ms. Bakken has only entered one competition, which was NATS, where she won 1st place in 2006.
